January Lip Library

For me, January is a month of the more subtle lip shades following the bold lips of Autumn and the festive season. Most of the reds and berries are left behind for a little while, and the nudes and pinks take the make up stage. I've recently received/bought quite a few that fit into this category, which made choosing my picks for this months lip library relatively easy.

The Jouer liquid lipstick in 'Citronade Rose' is such a unique metallic ballet slipper pink that it balances subtle and eye catching in the perfect quantities to wear on a January night out. Metallic lip colours are so different to a matte or satin finish that the finish alone is enough to make a statement, regardless of the actual shade. I've spoken about the formula of these lipsticks in the past; just moisturising enough to pass my comfort test and be separated from the dry, matte finishes.

The Colourpop liquid lipstick in the shade 'Point Zero' has a satin finish, and is from the Kathleen Lights collaboration. I see this shade as the ideal brown nude - its similar to Spirit by MAC (one of my all time favourites) and does not budge. Considering this beauty only set me back the dollar equivalent of £5, I'm a very happy bunny when it comes to the formula of this, and I think the brown tone gives it a good pop for this month.

The TooFaced Melted Lipstick in Chihuahua is quickly becoming my go-to lip product. Its a gorgeous deep nude pink, and the formula of these products is unbeatable (as I've said a million times on this blog). If you want a nude pink that applies easily and stays put for a good amount of time I couldn't think of a more fitting choice. This is constantly in my handbag for me to just reach in and grab, and its definitely my favourite lip product of the month/year. I talked about these in my beauty round up for 2016, so for a full review just visit here.

The Victoria's Secret Lip Silk in 'Victoria' is a pretty pink gloss that works well on its own or paired with one of the pink liquid lipsticks, and the best part? Not sticky at all. Hallelujah. I never would have thought to try out VS make up, but they've got this gloss so right that I'm definitely tempted to pick up some more. This would look beautiful on no-make up make up days, and it would definitely match with the TooFaced lipstick if you wanted it to appear a bit more bold.

My last choice for January is an unusual one for me, since I've never been a lip liner girl. I got the Loreal Lip Liner Couture in the shade 630 as part of a deal at Boots, and I was so impressed with the quality. I'm lazy when it comes to applying lipstick and hardly ever think to try a liner first, but this is such a brilliant base for nude lip colours that I know I'll reach for it a lot this month. It even works well on its own with a sheer gloss on top, a look that I've tried a few times already.

I hope you're having the best start to 2017, and that everything is beginning in the way that you wanted it to. Have a lovely Sunday!

October Lip Library

Happy annual Mean Girls day!

It's finally October, and I'm fully ready to immerse myself into Autumn, berry tones and hot chocolate by the bucket load (although lets by honest, that happens all year round.) Beauty-wise, I gravitate towards bolder lips during the colder months, as opposed to tinted lip balms and glosses throughout the Summer. I thought I'd start a new series on the blog; monthly lip libraries, starting with one of the most exciting make up months of all.

The lightest shade that I'm going to be wearing non-stop this month is 'Mehr' by MAC, which was the first ever shade that I purchased and obviously therefore one of my all time favourites. Its a deep dirty rose shade, a pink nude that's dark enough to qualify as a bold October lip. I don't think I could ever create a lip collection that doesn't include a MAC lipstick, it just wouldn't be right.

The second shade is the ever beautiful 'Snapdragon' that I bought last month and reviewed for you guys, my first splurge from Jouer and the perfect lip colour to stand out at a party. I feel like this would be a gorgeous colour to wear during Halloween weekend, since the metallic finish makes it look just that bit more unusual.  This is definitely up there with one of the best formulas for a liquid lipstick; a comfortable product that doesn't dry out your lips in the slightest.

For some reason I've drifted apart from the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams - at the time when they were in the spotlight I bought a ton of them and wore them constantly, but nowadays I only reach for them now and again. One of the shades that I've only worn a couple of times is 'Prague', a deep pink shade that I'm bringing out in October to fully get my wear out of it. You know those days where its cold but there's definitely some sunshine so a dark berry lip seems overkill? That's when I'll be reaching for this shade.

A surprisingly amazing product that I can't wait to wear this month is the plum lip crayon by French Connection, which doesn't have a shade name but comes in a twin pack with a bright red that I'll be honest, isn't the best shade for white teeth. I don't think I've ever tried a lip crayon that has a similar formula to a balm but a lot of colour payoff at the same time - definitely worth the purchase since it only cost about £5.

The final product that I can't wait to add to my everyday make up bag is Black Cherry by Revlon, the iconic Autumn shade that reminds me of being fifteen and running around Liverpool with my Mum desperately trying to find a Boots or Superdrug that stocked this lipstick. It is the best plum tone, and I've always loved Revlon lipsticks because they stay on so darn long. Black Cherry is quite simply October in a beauty product.

Snapdragon

Isn't this the most beautiful liquid lipstick that you've ever laid eyes on? When I saw a Cult Beauty advert on Facebook advertising the new fall collection from Jouer, I knew I had to get my hands on Snapdragon, a totally unique colour to anything I'd usually go for. I'm a magpie, I really am - if it sparkles, it has my attention. And I haven't taken my attention off this lipstick since it arrived at my door.

I've never tried any products from Jouer before, but I have to say that after trying Snapdragon out (hella cute name by the way), I'm definitely on board with the brand. I like that the shades of these lipsticks are different to any that I've seen before; this particular shade is described as a 'metallic cool frosty plum', which does sound like the loveliest shade for a winter party, and I know that I'll never find another shade quite like it. As you can see from the photos, the lipstick looks very glittery in the bottle, but once you apply it to your lips it just has the most gorgeous metallic effect that looks bold, especially with a softer eye look. The colour looks extremely similar in the tube and on the lips, which is always a bonus when you order online and can't swatch the product in store.

For £15, I think you get what you pay for - I can't believe that a product as luxurious as this costs less than a MAC lipstick, because the packaging makes the Jouer products look way more expensive than they're actually priced at. Plus, when I ordered from Cult Beauty I managed to find a code online to give me free delivery, so I skipped delivery charges (always a bonus, paying delivery is literally the bane of my existence.) I wasn't aware of this before I ordered it, but the lipstick bottles can actually slot together, to keep all your Jouer liquid lipsticks in the same place. Nifty trick right there.

As for the actual formula, I'm completely in love. I always tend to put a thin layer of lip balm underneath any lip product, just as a safety net for dry lips, although with this product I'm not sue that the safety net is needed. Its a more comfortable liquid lipstick, and believe me when I say that the colour will not budge unless you want it to. The pigmentation is lovely; I did end up putting two layers on for this lip swatch, just so you could really see the colour, whereas in reality I would probably just stick to one. All in all I think this product is absolutely dreamy, and Jouer have hit it out of the park with their shade range - loads of unique shades that you couldn't find anywhere else. Their new fall collection also has a peachy nude, a brick red and a dusty mauve, but if I purchased again I'd go for 'Citronade Rose' from their original collection, described as a 'metallic ballet pink'. *sighs*

Have you ever tried a Jouer lip cream, and do you like the look of their fall collection?
